“Tourniquet” passionately shines a light on the vulnerability and internal strife inherent to a troubling relationship. The often breathy power vocals of Meg Myers are capable of carrying the track, but the instrumental support is equally praiseworthy. Strings, guitar and percussion are dynamic in their purpose. Particularly in the first portion of “Tourniquet,” the percussion and piano cooperate with the vocals to emphasis the sentiment. The strings consistently establish tension, but sometimes with a calming presence (such as after the one-minute mark) and other times with a chilling existence (such as in companionship with the guitar around the 3:33 mark).
“Tourniquet” is on Meg Myers’ recently released album "Take Me To The Disco" (300 Entertainment). The album is self-reflective and revealing. In discussing the album she explained:
"When I first wrote some of these new songs, I thought I knew what I was writing about. A lot had to do with a breakup. Listening back to some of these songs made me realize what I was really writing about... what was underneath it all," continues Myers, who grew up in a Jehovah's Witness household in Tennessee before breaking free to pursue music in L.A. at the age of 19. "All of a sudden it all made sense to me and that moment of realization just overwhelmed me with a flood of tears and joy. On the surface, I thought I was writing about love loss but I've learned it goes much deeper than that. It's going back to the child in me that needed to be healed. I've always written from a true place, but in getting to know myself better, I'm now writing from an even deeper level of honesty."
Twice, we’ve grabbed the opportunity to see Meg Myers perform (first at Rickshaw Stop and then at a Live 105 BFD festival). Both were positive experiences. Myers will return to San Francisco on October 16, when she makes an appearance at August Hall. A more complete tour schedule is included at the bottom of this post.

Lyrics of “Tourniquet” by Meg Myers
Gotta give you up
But I don't know how
I'm on my knees
And I wanna know the secret of love
Of love
And if I could be stronger than you
Then maybe I'd leave
But you got that hit that I need
My baby please
But I can't keep taking
I'm numb, I'm sedated
Only love hurts like this
So, tie a rope around my wrist
I'm losing, I'm losing the feeling
You're my tourniquet (eh, eh)
Sticks and stones built my home
And all the faces I have known
I'm losing, I'm losing the feeling
You're my tourniquet
(Eh, eh, eh, eh) [Repeat 3x]
You're my tourniquet
(Eh, eh, eh, eh)
One touch
And I'm running for the hills
But how could I leave
When the pain gets real?
Make me feel
Cover up
In the middle of the night
Like a child I was scared, I was lonely
I was fighting the good fight
Bright light
But I can't keep taking
I'm numb, I'm sedated
Only love hurts like this
So, tie a rope around my wrist
I'm losing, I'm losing the feeling
You're my tourniquet (eh, eh)
Sticks and stones built my home
And all the faces I have known
I'm losing, I'm losing the feeling
You're my tourniquet
(Eh, eh, eh, eh) [Repeat 3x]
You're my tourniquet
(Eh, eh, eh, eh)
You're my tourniquet
(Eh, eh, eh, eh) [Repeat 3x]
You're my tourniquet
(Eh, eh, eh, eh)
