“Comfortable Sadness” by GHOST GRL - A Song Feature

The music of GHOST GRL has the power to destroy indifference and, in its place, construct a harmony of emotion among its listeners. Impressively, her music can change feelings even when kept to melodic and rhythmic basics. Thus, the start of GHOST GRL’s single “Comfortable Sadness” is her voice accompanied by alternating guitars in little more than single-notes, seesaw sequencing. The complexity is near minimal, but the power is apparent.

“Comfortable Sadness” is a song that fits the professed likings of Tom Waits, who once said, “I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things.” Until the final verse, the melody is beautiful, with the elegance being periodically enhanced by near-angelic backing vocals. The lyrical content may be short of “terrible,” but it includes distressing revelations, such as the admission that the tendency is not to carefully move toward possible mistakes:
And when I fuck it up
I make it all at once
'Cause it doesn't feel like it's properly done
If I'm not looking at blood on the fabric
Looking at blood

The final verse moves from introspection to admonition, with the guitars becoming correspondingly forceful. The song’s credits identify the “additional guitar/bass guitar" as belonging to Kevin Klien and Alex Allinson. Peter Bartash is on drums. “Comfortable Sadness” is a single from the album “Rewired,” which will be released on February 11, 2020.

GHOST GRL is the performance name of Gianna Botticelli, an Indie Ambient artist from Boston, Massachusetts. We agree with the statement, “Combining her expressive vocals with soft and haunting melodies, GHOST GRL creates emotionally stimulating songs with one goal: to make people feel something.”
Recently, GHOST GRL has been nominated for The Boston Music Awards (2019) New Artist of the year, as well as Vocalist of the year. She has played venues like The House of Blues, Brighton Music Hall and Cafe 939 and has shared the stage with artists such as Caroline Rose, Melissa Ferrick, Sidney Gish, Basement Revolver and Dutch ReBelle.

Lyrics of “Comfortable Sadness” by GHOST GRL
And I'm always looking for something
For someone I'll never find, a constant
And when I fuck it up
I make it all at once
'Cause it doesn't feel like it's properly done
If I'm not looking at blood on the fabric
Looking at blood

You said that's why
I'm constantly standing
In my own heavy, ungraceful, comfortable sadness
You said that's why
I shouldn't think about it anymore
It does me no good
But it stuck to the back of my skull like I knew that it would

So shut your mouth
Don't act like you didn't know
Don't look at the telephone on the table
Like you didn't know that it would hurt your feelings

Like you didn't know that it would hurt your feelings
