Black Sabath, Iron Maiden, and Bad Company
are best known for this hat trick. The next tier includes Bo Diddley, Motörhead,
and The 1975. Now, Racing Mount Pleasant joins the collective in which the band
shares its name with an album and a song on that album.
Racing Mount Pleasant recently changed their name from Kingfisher. They are based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The seven members are Casey Cheatham (drums, background vocals), Kaysen Chown (strings, harmonium, synth guitar, background vocals), Sam DuBose (guitar, piano, vocals), Connor Hoyt (alto saxophone, flute, background vocals), Callum Roberts (trumpet, guitar, background vocals), Tyler Thenstedt (bass guitar, slide guitar, background vocals), Samuel Uribe-Botero (tenor saxophone, piano, synth, background vocals).
The collection of instruments shows that the music of Racing Mount Pleasant is not typical. But our comparisons would be to Family Crest (San Francisco) and San Fermin (New York). At the risk of being slandered for attaching a label to a musical approach, Sophisticated Chamber Pop/Rock seems appropriate.
The album “Racing Mount Pleasant“ was released on August 15, 2025. While it is easy to argue that other songs are even better, our favorite of the 13 tracks is “Racing Mount Pleasant.” The band’s tour schedule is available at https://ffm.to/racingmountpleasantalbum. Importantly, they will be at The Fillmore in San Francisco on October 28, 2025.
