The vocals during the verses of “3” deliver a composed, straightforward description of the circumstances. In comparison,
the occurrences of the chorus are melodic shouts. The contrast between the two is
among the reasons the single from Thyla is raising anticipation for the band’s
upcoming debut album.
“3” begins with a guitar that hints at intros of some of our favorite Scottish bands, such as Twilight Sad and Frightened Rabbit’s single “Holy.” Then, the song departs from the hint with the entrance of a higher pitch guitar and appealing rhythmic percussion. The departure should be no surprise, since Thyla is based in Brighton, which is at the southern shore of England, while Scotland is along England’s northern border.
"'3' is about ego, pride and suffering; and the folly of living in the past. It’s also about bouncing back from past traumas and coming to learn that suffering makes you who you are. It’s about not needing validation from anyone other than yourself. Whatever you decide to do in life has to be for you, not because you should but because you could!"
