“stabilise” by Nilüfer Yanya – A Song Feature

“stabilise” carries three characteristics loved at Indie Obsessive – pleasing vocals, infectious rhythm, and strong guitar. The skillfully produced single from Nilüfer Yanya is the first release from her upcoming sophomore album “PAINLESS,” which is scheduled to drop on March 22, 2022. The full lyrics of the single are included in this post, but the press materials provide helpful insights:
Over a fast-paced, nimble guitar line on new single ‘stabilise’ Yanya sings “There’s nothing out there / For you and me / I’m going nowhere.” It is a song about the mundanity of the city where dog fights, small flats, and endless high-rise buildings can induce claustrophobia. Nilüfer shares about the concept behind the single and video, “I was really thinking about your surroundings and how much they influence or change your perception of things. A lot of the city is just grey and concrete, there's no escape.” She adds, "The video plays on the central theme in the song of no one coming to save you ever. It’s set in the depths of reality in everyday life where we are the only one’s truly capable of salvaging or losing ourselves. Nothing is out there - both a depressing and reassuring statement (depending on how you look at it). Sometimes you have to dress up as a spy or a rock star and just hope for the best.”

The Bandcamp site for the upcoming album notes:
“Nilüfer Yanya runs head first into the depths of emotional vulnerability on her anticipated sophomore record ‘PAINLESS.’ Recorded between a basement studio in Stoke Newington and Riverfish Music in Penzance, the record is a more sonically direct effort, narrowing her previously broad palette to a handful of robust ideas.”

Lyrics of “stabilise” by Nilüfer Yanya
Late night
Up all morning
I could feel something
But it could be nothing
Where they go
I know what's out there
It's up to you and me
I'm going downstairs
Got those keys
You're going nowhere

It didn't show that
Our days were parallel
We had to move fast
Don't you slow me down
I'm going nowhere

Nothing goes above the high rise
Like no one gets back into your life
In a couple days I'm gonna lose this
In a couple places getting bruises
Just to heal my body

She said she's coming
But that don't mean nothing
'Cause I'm not waiting
For no one to save me
And if I'm going to stabilise
And if I'm gonna stabilise
And if I'm gonna stay

There's nothing out there
For you and me
I'm going nowhere
Until it bleeds
I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere

There's nothing out there
For you and me
I'm going nowhere
Until it bleeds
I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere

Dogs fight
Stayed up all morning
Thought I could feel something
But my mind keeps jumping
Back and forth
It might seem unfair but it worked for me
I'm going downstairs
Here for the therapy
That's going nowhere

It was the school bag
Showing up at four
It was a small flat
Rotten to the core
Still going nowhere

Nothing goes above the high rise
Like no one gets back into your life
In a couple days I'm gonna lose this
In a couple places getting bruises
Just to heal my body

She said she's coming
But that don't mean nothing
'Cause I'm not waiting
For no one to save me
And if I'm going to stabilise
And if I'm gonna stabilise
And if I'm gonna stay

There's nothing out there
For you and me
I'm going nowhere
Until it bleeds
I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere

There's nothing out there
For you and me
I'm going nowhere
Until it bleeds
I'm going nowhere
I'm going nowhere

She said she's coming
But that don't mean nothing
'Cause I'm not waiting
For no one to save me
And if I'm going to stabilise
And if I'm gonna stabilise
And if I'm gonna stay
