As
The Wrecks near the June 10 release of their “Sonder” album, singles are dropping.
“Where Are You Now?” is the strongest thus far. The contributions by girlhouse
certainly help. The voice of Lauren Luiz provides contrast with respect to both
the octave and the vocal purity. That should not be interpreted as a signal of
disrespect for the voice of The Wrecks' Nick Anderson. We are fans.
Although
Anderson says he wrote the “Where Are You Now?” chorus only two weeks after
their last album dropped in May 2020, the final pieces to the track - Billy
Nally’s live drums and the feature from girlhouse - were only added this past
March. “The drums made it come to life, and Lauren Luiz’s part glues the whole
track together. I love her voice and music, and I’m so happy with how this
feature turned out,” he exclaims.
In addition to Anderson, the members of The Wrecks are Aaron Kelley (bass), Nick “Schmizz” Schmidt (guitar), and Billy Nally (drums). The sound is related to The Kooks, but sometimes incorporates a touch of Walk the Moon. The band is preparing to tour in promotion of the album. The tour schedule and ticket information are available at https://www.wearethewrecks.com/. There are two performances in San Francisco, since the original date sold out so quickly.

“Where Are You Now?” (feat. girlhouse) by The
Wrecks
You proudly carried your conditions like a cross
I calculated my position and went along
One night turned to one week turned to one year
Wrong side of the right life, but I'm right here
We were nineteen, you were nervous
Tracing butterflies on the curtains
Coming up with what you gonna say
'Cause he always calls late and you knew you couldn't hurt him
So tell me how was I supposed to feel?
How was I supposed to heal?
To hell with your closure
But I still want mine
Where are you now?
Are you shaking, love? Arе you faking a smile?
Where arе you now?
I'm breaking down, but I'm gaining ground, yeah
I was treating my heart like you treat a burn (hold on a second)
Taking every bit of bad advice I'd ever heard
One night turned to one bride, what an affair
You lied and tried to hide your colors from your cousin while she dyed your hair
Well, you got me now
Where are you now?
Are you shaking, love? Are you faking a smile?
Where are you now?
I'm breaking down, but I'm gaining ground, yeah
We were twenty-three, I was nervous
Tracing butterflies on the curtains
Thinking how there's gonna come a day
When I finally take his name
And I know I don't deserve it
We were nineteen, was it worth it?
We were nineteen, was it worth it?
Where are you now?
Are you shaking, love?
Are you faking a smile?
Where are you now?
I'm breaking down, but I'm gaining ground, yeah
