The
standout feature of "Second Sight" lies in its captivatingly layered
vocals. The two vocal tracks seamlessly weave melodic harmony, although with
differing tones. That is, the predominant voice exudes emotional depth with a
matter-of-fact groundedness, in contrast to the airy, ethereal tone of the
accompanying voice. We suspect that both voices belong to Yasi Lowy, the founder
of Bad Tiger.
Instrumentally,
we commend the percussion in "Second Sight." Despite the track's
melodic and gentle flow, the drummer is granted creative liberty, injecting a
subtle unpredictability without derailing the overall melody. This sense of
freedom and unexpectedness is foreshadowed in the first seven seconds of the
song. The song begins with a somewhat chaotic collection of sounds, primarily
led by percussion. Still, it’s the drums that provide the transition to the
melody.
Bad
Tiger is a San Francisco Bay Area-based band made up of Yasi Lowy (vocals, guitar),
David Garges (guitar, synth, vocals), Tyler Gholson (bass), and Jacob Sherfield
(drums). “Second Sight” is a single that will reside on the band’s album “Bliss”
which is scheduled for release on February 2, 2024.
Another
early track release from “Bliss” is “Enough.” The song includes a
clarinet, which is not a common Indie instrument. During the early
opportunities to listen to “Enough,” the lyrics seem straightforward and
uncomplicated. But with additional opportunities, the intelligence within the
lyrics surfaces. The song looks at a relationship and asks:
But what if I don’t
wanna grow anymore?
Haven’t I done enough
To just grow old with
you,
Instead of getting up and
leaving to come home to you
If you’re still there?

Lyrics of “Second Sight” by Bad Tiger
If I saw me the way you do, would I see that I'm someone?
Would I see it like I see the sun?
If it hurts your eyes, look away
Sometimes it's easy like that, finding pain's just bad
I don't want you to be lonely any more
So I gotta look right at what I don't wanna look at
Then I gotta look right at what I don't wanna look at
Then I gotta look right at what I don't wanna look at
What I don't wanna look at
If I saw the world the way you do, could I learn to be more fun?
Move lightly in the wind, in the sun
Or would I find a way to stay stuck through and through?
Even with a second sight, keep hold too tight
I don't want to be lonely any more
So I gotta look right at what I don't wanna look at
Then I gotta look right at what I don't wanna look at
Then I gotta look right at what I don't wanna look at
Well I don't wanna look at
If I saw me the way you do, would I see that I'm someone?

Lyrics of “Enough” by Bad Tiger
Tires pumping to your place
And I feel my heart will break
Just to see this moment pass
Become something else
Some memory that fades with the rest
I can’t bear to love you this much
When there’s no way not to fuck it up
Cause there’s no way to thank you enough
What if I don’t wanna go anymore?
Haven’t I done enough
To just grow old with you
Instead of getting up and leaving to come home
to you
If you’re still there?
Pulling tarot, hanging on to the signs I can
find
To not be so scared of a good thing
Of the future
Of our lives all intertwining.
But what if I don’t wanna grow anymore?
Haven’t I done enough
To just grow old with you,
Instead of getting up and leaving to come home
to you
If you’re still there
Tires pumping to your place
And I feel my heart will break
Just to see this moment pass
Become something else
Some memory that fades with the rest
I can’t bear to love you this much
When there’s no way not to fuck it up
Cause there’s no way to thank you enough
What if I don’t wanna go anymore?
Haven’t I done enough
To just grow old with you
Instead of getting up and leaving to come home to you
If you’re still there?
Pulling tarot, hanging on to the signs I can find
To not be so scared of a good thing
Of the future
Of our lives all intertwining.
But what if I don’t wanna grow anymore?
Haven’t I done enough
To just grow old with you,
Instead of getting up and leaving to come home to you
If you’re still there
