“Pullstring” by Lauren Ruth Ward – A Song Feature

Lauren Ruth Ward shared another single and unveiled another dimension. Her power vocals aren’t camouflaged in “Pullstring,” but Lauren remains more relaxed than prior releases in which she was accompanied by Rock-driven instruments. “Pullstring” has a Folky vibe. Much of the track is merely Lauren’s voice and the acoustic guitar of her songwriting partner, Eduardo Rivera. Even when an electric guitar makes its appearance, it is gentle.

It’s unlikely that there will be comparable commercial success, but listening to “Pullstring” brings comparisons with Classic Rock from the late 1960s and early 1970s. That is not unique to this track from Lauren Ruth Ward, since she takes cues from ‘70s Rock. “Pullstring” begins with an acoustic guitar hook that is reminiscent of an early acoustic single from Neil Young. Venturing even further out along the comparison limb, Lauren’s release is similar to Janis Joplin exposing a different dimension by first setting expectations with rambunctious songs such as “Down on Me” and then stunning audiences with her version of Gershwin’s “Summertime.” Lauren has a charisma that makes her live performances entertaining. In explaining the meaning of “Pullstring” Lauren said, “No matter how thoughtful or good my intentions are, everyone sees they want to see. Ignoring the voices that see me in a negative light and focusing on the individuals who see me as I intend is something I reteach myself daily.”
