“As Always” by Little Dume – A Song Feature

Little Dume masterfully shifts among intensity levels without any hint of a corresponding change in the emotional commitment to message. That skill is as powerful in professing devotion, such as in their latest single “As Always,” as it is in an orchestral revelation of the tension in a commitment to family, such as in the 2018 single “Brothers.”

“As Always” begins with meditative instruments and sentimental lyrics – “I’d climb a thousand steps for you, see me moving // Cause up on top there’s room for two, it keeps us spinning.” With the second verse, heartbeat percussion raises the energy, but the more invigorating jump coincides with the chorus. Transitions continue to occur, and each one is seamless yet easily identifiable.

Little Dume is based in Malibu, California. The members are David Franklin Sandborg (lead vocals), Dane Sandborg (bass), James Burnett (guitar), and Wesley Ritenour (drums). David and Dane are brothers and longtime friends of James and Wesley. The band’s bio states that they have been playing together since age 16. The bio also provides information about individual members:
Members include James Burnett, guitarist, who wrote “Settle” for Jordan Smith’s #1 selling album on iTunes… David Sandborg, lead vocalist, top songwriter for Universal Music Publishing Group, who has written major hits for Kygo, Rome, and SocialClub Misfit's Dove award winning song, “War Cry”… David's brother Dane Sandborg, bass, who toured with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Awolnation… and Wesley Ritenour, drums, who toured the world with Lee Ritenour in some of the most notable venues from The Hollywood Bowl to the Blue Note in Tokyo.
