“YOU” by Juniper Park – A Song Feature

“YOU” is a memory jog as to why the guitar is royalty among Rock instruments. Power percussion and a pause separate a first half having diverse rhythmic sensibilities from a second half that is hook-and-riff rich. Separately, each half of the song from Juniper Park carries an energy and performance strength to please a listener for the typical length of a song. Together, they combine to form a song earmarked to be a concert favorite when venues safely reopen.

Why a concert favorite? Because “YOU” sets an energy expectation during its first minute and then disrupts that expectation by shifting to Dream sensibilities. The power percussion sets a tension with the approach toward the pause at the 1:34 mark. Gig-going fans of Juniper Park will know what follows and will be quietly thinking “Wait for it,” much like Barney Stinson when he often split “LEGEN…wait for it…DARY!” on television’s “How I Met Your Mother.” The wait ends with an explosion of gang vocals that repeat an easy-to-remember-and-join question. The repeating question is assisted by energetic guitar and percussion.

Juniper Park identifies “YOU” as a song about the questions one may ask when going through a break up with a significant other. The band is based in Los Angeles. The members of Juniper Park are Nolan Seeger, Chandler James, Elijah John, Rylan Scott, and Oscar Flynt.
