“Dark Dreams” by Midnight Divide – A Song Feature

     “Dark Dreams” is a song that regularly refreshes the listener’s interest by pulling another present from the bag. The verses poetically describe a lost love opportunity, but with vocals that don’t emotionally fit the message. The vocal style isn’t devoid of emotion, but the seriousness of the situation is not apparent. Then, the first occurrence of the chorus enters at 1:04 with a more emotion-revealing, higher-octave, and more melodic approach. The contrast is alluring. 

     Two minutes later (3:04), “Dark Dreams” seemingly fades away, but returns to the chorus. A short time later, a piano makes its appearance – where has that been? The final seconds are percussion and the appealing bass line that was heard before but is finally featured. 

     Midnight Divide is an alternative rock band based in Los Angeles. The members are Austen Moret (vocals, rhythm guitar), Jace McPartland (bass), Dan Beltran (lead guitar), and Bryan King (drums).
