“Happiness Completely Remixed” by The Bins – An Album Feature

From the perspective of musical tastes, most of us are products of our early environment. Sure, appreciations evolve. It is common for music devotees to open the door to newly developed styles, although youthful edginess is too often eroded away over time. Still, most of us remain tethered to our early influences.

For Indie Obsessive, this nurture-over-nature sculpting drives a preference for “organic” instrumentation over the wonders of technologically advanced equipment. Fortunately, the preference does not prevent us from appreciating the work of particularly skillful artists whose tastes may be different or broader than ours. Thus, this blog has featured several songs from The Bins, which is the musical moniker of Clark Barclay. The moniker reflects his obsession with mining record bins for gems.

Our favorite tracks from The Bins are results of Clark Barclay using decades-old songs as inspirations. In 2021, The Bins released an album, “Happiness Complete,” that included “Beijos,” a song that employed Lou Rawls' 1966 single “Love Is a Hurtin' Thing” as an anchor while ingeniously piecing samples from various songs into a cohesive whole.

Today, The Bins released “Happiness Completely Remixed,” a collection of remixes of the songs on the 2021 album. The remixes are from various artists, but Barclay has his fingerprints on each. We are partial to “Santa Cruz Mountains (Slow Shudder Remix).” Slow Shudder is the performance name of Amanda Mayo, a recording artist, music producer, songwriter, and DJ (https://slowshudder.com/). Her voice shines through on the remix.
