“She’s A Fool” by Haden & Pepper – A Song Feature

“She’s A Fool” is a reflective acknowledgement of past vulnerabilities and shortcomings, wrapped in a melodic tapestry woven of Folk, Alt-Rock, and Southern Rock influences. From the start of the song from Haden & Pepper, the instrumentation carries the energy of a determined stride—one driven by self-awareness and the intent to move beyond prior missteps.

Haden & Pepper are Rachel Haden (vocals, bass) and Chris Pepper (producer, multi-instrumentalist). While talking about “She’s A Fool,” Rachel explained:
The lyrics to this song are very personal to me. It’s about recognizing my own mistakes — those times when you can’t help but see yourself as the fool.”

An interesting “exercise” is to attempt to identify the various instruments contributing to the sound of “She’s A Fool.” Some contributions, such as the lapsteel, are more easily re7cognized than others. The Facebook page of Haden & Pepper states that the following “fun toys” were included in the recording:
   1. 1960s Yamaha FG-180 Acoustic Guitar.
   2. Gibson SG.
   3. Atkin Telecaster.
   4. 1961 Ludwig Super Classic Drums with a Premier Royal Ace Snare.
   5. Casio SK-1.
   6. Indian Harmonium.
   7. 1960s Guyatone Lapsteel.
   8. Fender P Bass.
   9. 1920s Marxophone.
   10. 1960s Hammond L122.

Haden & Pepper are based in Los Angeles, California. They self-identify as a “Cinematic Indie Rock duo.” During “She’s A Fool,” the description is most appropriate at 2:30, when the guitar drives the bridge. The song is currently available at Bandcamp and Soundcloud, but won’t be officially released until October 24th.

Lyrics of “She’s A Fool” by Haden & Pepper
So many highs
So many lows
She’s a fool
She’s a fool

So many colors
So many clues
She’s a fool
She’s a fool

Gazing from a distance
Searching for existence
Lost between dimensions
Asking for direction
She’s a fool

Instrumental bridge

So many levels
So many views
She’s a fool
She’s a fool

Losing all perspective
(Losing all perspective)
Focused on objective
(Focused on objective)
Following instruction
(Following instruction)
Playing with destruction
(Playing with destruction)
She’s a fool

So many highs
So many lows
She’s a fool
She’s a fool
