Rick Beato is unquestionably our favorite
YouTube personality. Too often, he speaks beyond our ability to understand, but
that isn’t his fault. But his love for music is infectious, and his opinions and
selections trigger listener thinking and reevaluations.
Two
series that are particularly popular are Beato’s “What Makes This Song Great?”
and his Top 20s. In the first of the two, Beato dissects a well-known song and provides
a basis as to why the song stands above others and why it withstood the test of
time. In his Top 20s series, Beato lists songs with a particular attribute or
feature, such as his favorite bass intros or favorite guitar solos. While we
favor the electric guitar over any other instrument, the “Top 20 Acoustic
Guitar Intros of All Times” was perhaps most enlightening for us. It is

Beato
is paying increasing attention to the number of Spotify “plays” that songs receive.
He recently released a video that identifies the only 16 songs that are 30+
years old and hit over 1 billion plays on Spotify.
