On an album with eight songs that individually deserve recognition and recommendation, the standout for us is “Wolf.” Although we are a blog that nearly steadfastly favors guitar over synth, the song from Yeah Yeah Yeahs had its impact. The instrumentation is full and lush, while the vocals are fully committed to the lyric. The lyrics are included in this post. The first line misleadingly points to its being a cover of Duran Duran (another repetitive band name), but there are far more differences than similarities.
“Wolf”
is a song on the fifth album from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but the first in nine years.
“Cool It Down” was released via Secretly Canadian. Speaking about the
album, lead singer Karen O said:
“For
a lot of the songs on this record, we’re giving voice to the feelings I want to
hear reflected back to me in music. It’s confrontational, and it’s emotional,
and it’s addressing things that nobody wants to look at. As an artist, there’s
a responsibility to do that. I know when I feel that reflected back to me, I’m
so grateful, because it makes me feel less crazy and less alone in the world.
That’s where music reigns. This record was a chance for us to use that
superpower. This record feels like it has a different kind of urgency.”
The
members of Yeah Yeah Yeahs are Karen O (born Karen Lee Orzolek), guitarist and
keyboardist Nick Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase. The band is based in New
York.

I'm hungry like a wolf
I bleed like a wolf
I hunger for you only
Don't leave me now, don't break the spell
In Heaven, lost my taste for Hell
Taste for Hell
Mm, mm
I feed, I feed like a wolf
I hunger for you only
Don't leave me now, don't break the spell
In Heaven, lost my taste for Hell
Taste for Hell
Oh, oh
Into the wild
Into the wild with me
Into the wild with me
Into the wild
Into the wild
Into the wild
Into the wild
Into the wild
Into the wild
