“Radio Player” by Josaleigh Pollett – A Song Feature

The song has a familiarity, even during the first exposure to “Radio Player.” The song is a collaboration of Josaleigh Pollett and Jordan Watko (aka “Crowd Shy”), which was not without difficulties, since Pollett is based in Salt Lake, Utah, and Watco has moved to Japan.

In talking about the track, Pollett said:
"’Radio Player’ is a song about memory and fear, loosely based on seeing the movie Poltergeist at too young an age. It is a journey through the hallways of childhood that we leave a light on within. A pink light flickers on and beckons the listener through, releasing them changed and covered in ectoplasm five minutes later.”

Lyrics of “Radio Player” by Josaleigh Pollett
Radio player, I fell asleep.
Drums in the basement, turn up the TV.
I tried to listen to what they were playing,
I tried to sing in my sleep.

Radio player, do you listen to me?

A visit to where we used to live,
Break in and enter, low river gets in.
If the guy next door was the kid from before,
Now he’s big and we better run quick.

Radio player, what trouble we’re in.

The house isn’t there anymore,
And I don’t know if it ever was.
Memory is a fickle thing when you cope with the damage like us.

Radio player, look what we’ve done.

When I fell asleep it was dark,
Now a light is coming from the TV

When I fell asleep it was dark,
Now a light is coming from the TV

When I fell asleep it was fine,
Now the dog cries out with a feeling,

And the clock stopped blinkin’ at four,
And a wonderful light tries to open the door

But I put my back into it,
And a heart inside is gleaming,
And I hear it say it loves me,
But it wants me to stay dreaming

When I fell asleep, it was dark,
Now a light is coming from the TV

I told you that I saw a ghost
I just need you to believe me.
