“Follow You” by modernlove. – A Song Feature

Unlike most love songs, “Follow You” has a tempo, passion, and barn-burner drive suitable for a final song on a concert setlist. The energy of the single from modernlove. varies, but the timing of the intensity shifts shields the listener from any lapse in attentiveness. The attention to composition and execution is most apparent starting at 2:22, when a sequence begins with an intensity drop, followed by a crescendo that peaks at 2:45, leading to a momentarily halt of the instruments to shine light on the vocals and handclapping. Much takes place during that 30-second span, but the song never surrenders its momentum.

The start of “Follow You” is equally worthy of praise. modernlove. begins in a low fidelity mode, then increases the fidelity and accelerates to a full sprint seven seconds into the single. When the vocals enter, the bass is allowed its moment in the sun within a song that primarily focuses upon other contributors.

Speaking about their new offering, modernlove. said:
"'Follow You' is a love song about the early stages of infatuation in a relationship. It’s about finding yourself in a relationship so intimate that spending each waking moment together still isn’t enough, hence the lyrics ‘when you fall asleep I’ll follow you.’
“Musically, we wanted to write a song that resonated with the nostalgia of those same naive infatuations and took us back to when we first started the band as teenagers finding ourselves as people as well as artists. A simple four chord structure that echoed the likes of Bloc Party, The Cure and New Order. A song that we could fully jam on together and jump around to."

The band is based in Drogheda, Ireland. The members of modernlove. are Barry Lally (vocals, guitar), Daniel Rooney (bass, synth), Graham Fagan (guitar, synth), and Cian McCluskey (drums).

Lyrics of “Follow You” by modernlove.
Oh my God
Is it ever gonna stop feeling this good?
It seems so mad
Even though it’s early
This is the best night I’ve ever had

You know, everything that’s good takes time
And now I’m sharing your Tesco wine
It’s nice
I guess we’ll see where this goes

I really needed a change of scenery
You really have no idea what you do to me
It never took a lot to take it out of me

Cause after it all
You carry me back to your room
Talk all night long
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you
Carry me back your room
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you

I feel like it all started on the park bench
I can’t say for sure
But every time I walk on by
I feel that wrench in my chest

I can’t help but feel that it’s a heart attack
Like when you moved in
I hoped you wouldn’t go back
But you never did
No, it was all good

So baby, what you giving me those doe eyes for?
You play it off as if you didn’t know somehow
Baby, if I didn’t before
I really feel it now

After it all
You carry me back to your room
Talk all night long
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you
Carry me back to your room
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you

When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you

After it all
You carry me back to your room
Talk all night long
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you

After it all
You carry me back to your room
Talk all night long
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you
When you fall asleep, I’ll follow you
