At the risk of unsettling regular readers
of this blog, we note that Bloodywood will tour in the U.S. this year. Among
the stops is the Aftershock Festival the Sacramento, California. (October 9,
2022). Their music is about as far away from out wheelhouse as possible, but their
sound is unique (at least to us). Bloodywood self-identify their genre as Indian
Folk Metal from New Delhi, India.
Their tour names are a clever blend of a common Indian and a well-known Metal band name. In 2019, Bloodywood took to the road with their Raj Against the Machine Tour. This year’s tour is Nine Inch Naans. The tour dates for the U.S. leg are in the above banner. They are touring in support of the “Rakshak” album, which include the song “Gaddaar.”
“Gaadaar”
translates to “traitor.” The video being with the disclaimer that although the
single contains strong political commentary, it isn’t aimed at a particular
person, party, or political mindset. The
lyrics are a combination of Hindi and English, but the video provides translation
of the Hindi.
The
members of Bloodywood are Karan Katiyar, Jayant Bhadula, and Raoul Kerr. Interestingly,
Katiyar was a corporate attorney prior to forming the band in 2016. In the
early years, they were more of a cover band. The nu metal cover of Linkin Parks’
“Heavy” brought them to the attention of the Indie Universe.
