“Pub Rock” by Sketchy Fancy – A Song Feature

“Pub Rock” delivers an infectious energy via a supply chain that packages ear-catching guitar hooks and a movement-inducing rhythm section, while distinguishing itself from the competition by featuring skillful trumpet and a band-chant finish. In a live setting, the finish is an invitation to gig-goers to participate in the delivery by carrying the energy the final steps. “Pub Rock” is an arena-ready single.

The song structure of the song from Australia’s Sketchy Fancy is not complicated. There is a guitar intro, three occurrences of a verse-chorus-bridge sequence, and the rousing finish. But “Pub Rock” is not repetitive. The intro and first bridge are guitar-driven, while the other two bridges feature power trumpet. The trumpet enters and exits on opposite ends of each chorus. Then, the final 30 seconds are electric.

In an explanation of its motivation:
Lead single “Pub Rock” draws from the storytelling of 1980’s pub culture and dusts it off with a high-energy arrangement and the poignant undertones of Australian bar scenes. The choral chant of “take me home” evokes both supportive community and the toll youthful hedonism.
