“Crying Is A Letting Go” by Daggy Man – A Song Feature

Vocal anguish and piano solemness stamp their brand on “Crying Is A Letting Go.” The gentle beauty of the piano during the intro does not foreshadow the angst that follows, but does lay the foundation for the intimacy that characterizes the single from Daggy Man.

The vocals vary throughout “Crying Is A Letting Go,” sometimes smooth and melodic and sometimes staccato, such as during the word-by-word near-shouting of “I don’t want to see you sad.”  There is a single voice at times and skillfully layered voices at others. Interestingly, at the 1:33 mark, the song becomes a musical round, a seldom-used technique in the Indie Universe.

Daggy Man is the performance moniker of Thomas Calder, who is based in Brisbane Australia. Calder was also the driving force of Trouble With Templeton. “Crying Is A Letting Go” is a single from “The Resume Of My Character,” an album scheduled for release on July 22. The song is “At once tender and explosive, intimate and unflinchingly honest - “Crying” is a confessional ballad about the difficulty of sitting in discomfort, and wanting to spare the ones you love from the inevitable pains of life.”

The moniker of “Daggy Man” has its origins in Calder’s fascination with pretending to be different characters throughout his childhood. He explains that one such character, “Daggy Man,” meant adopting clothing and mannerisms to try to inhabit what it feels like to be someone else or another version of himself.
