“Edda & Eve” by Gypsy Chicken - A Song Feature

Gypsy Chicken is a female ukulele duo. They are based in Tromsø, Norway, but Joanna Kreft arrived from Słupsk, Poland, and Solvei Stenslie from Mandan, North Dakota. Joanna Is also known as Asia. They identify their genre as “Antifolk.”

The lyrics of “Edda & Eve were written by Asia. She explains:
“This song talks about a tree, which symbolizes love. Everyone should be free to love whoever they want. It is also ok to love more than one person, even romantically, as long as you are honest and treat everyone with respect. The tree doesn't care, it just wants to grow. Sometimes a branch needs to be cut for the tree to be healthy. That's ok as well.
The tittle refers to two women: Edda, who is the great grandmother in the Norse Mythology, and Eve - the first woman according to the Bible. I find both of those women wise and wanted to invert the trope of eating a fruit by Eve being a sin.”

Lyrics of “Edda & Eve” by Gypsy Chicken
A massive trunk with twisted branches
Cinnamon bark and vibrant green leaves.
Before its sight everyone blanches
Calls the lonely, naive and thieves.

It's bearing fruits of different colors
None of them ever can taste the same.
Some bring you happiness, some sorrow
Stir up the demons that you tamed.

Stir up the demons that you tamed.

They told me that if you mix the flavors
You'll always get a bitter taste.
I learned that if you're very careful
None of the fruits will go to waste.

Cut off dead branches, water the ground
But never arrogantly trust
That perfect way is to be found
That'll make the tree forever last.

Make the tree forever last.

It's after all a wild creation
That has been here longer than time.
It has no point no destination
No point, no point.

Other than grow a thicker trunk
Other than smell of cinnamon bark
Other than make new twisted branches
Covered with green leaf avalanches.

Covered with green leaf avalanches
