“L.A.” by The Bergamot – A Song Feature

     “Elle left L.A. and she doesn't know why/ So she's moving on.” The song from The Bergamot is intelligently impactful. “L.A.” is about turning to the next chapter in life, but from the perspective of those left behind. She arrived in the city “with the stars in her eyes,” but reality was not aligned with her dreams. So she’s moving on.

      The Bergamot is the husband and wife duo of Nathaniel Hoff and Jillian Speece. They met while in a South Bend, Indiana high school in 2003, but they have since moved on - to Brooklyn, New York. The song “L.A.” evidences the duo’s strengths of lush harmonization and meaningful lyrics. The Bergamot provide a rich description of their single:

  The distorted howls call out to the listener, darkening an already bleak scenario. Almost as if a dream, being pulled from the light, falls into the depths of one's memories. The music lurches on with a tribal beating - simple yet pushing - as the kick drum distorts the mix. The fleet-fingered acoustic guitars wind in an element of natural beauty, yet arriving at an uncertain resolve. The song contains what we have come to know as our sonic signature - a harmonious cacophony of layered vocals over a minimal mix. Resolving into a tailspin of sounds including feedback looped pianos through guitar amps, guitars through synths, taking the listener to it's final resting spot as the harmonies begin their final chant "Goodbye L.A." - "I want to believe in you" - "Goodbye L.A." - "I want to believe in you."

     The Bergamot is currently co-producing a full-length documentary called "State of the Unity" filmed over the entire journey in 2016 set to be released later this year.
