Every band has its “influenced by” bands that played a role in developing a sound. Often, an influence is easily identified, particularly when the influence is from a band that is associated with specific characteristics, such as the vocal effects of Bon Iver music. And sometimes, a song will have different segments that reflect different influences. That is the case with “Make It Right” by Carriers.
“Make It Right” is most clearly aligned with the guitar approach of War on Drugs. But interestingly, contributors also include drummer Bryan Devendorf of The National and bassist John Curley of Afgan Whigs. The song bears the imprint of the two individuals and their bands.
The driving force of Carriers is Curt Kiser of Cincinnati, Ohio. Other members of the band are Trent Becknell (bass guitar), Cory Pavlinac (guitar), and Alex McGrath (drums). Their press materials state that Carriers sometimes includes Ashley McGrath (keys) and Isaac Karns (sampler, keys, backing vocals).

Lyrics of “Make it Right” by
Carriers
Every day is a new day
Ya get a new slate
Every day is a new dance
Ya get another chance
Every day is a new way
Try to work it out
Every day is a new one
Leave yesterday's doubt
Every day there’s an old lie
Just leave your past behind
Every day there a new lie
Move beyond the gun
Every day you’re a new man
Use the best hand
Every day is a wild one
Be the best man
Make it right
Through the night
[Repeat]
Down and out for count
Until tomorrow comes
Finding truth, finding out
When tomorrow comes
Yesterday was a bad one
Wet eyes, lost the love
But today is a new day
Drink the morning blood
Put your best foot out
Prepare for the dark cloud
Tell yourself what you know right
now
Don't give in to the self route
Put your most faith out
Just a seed will do
Watch it grow to the next day
Don't take your worst move
Make it right
Through the night
[Repeating]
Can I make it right?
[Repeating]
