“Disaster Party” by Magic Giant - A Song Feature

Magic Giant at The Chapel
Magic Giant is the band that immediately comes to mind when we consider the difference between listening to a recording and seeing a live performance. We’re fans of the band’s sound, which is a blend of Rock and Energy Pop performed with instruments that include the banjo and the fiddle. But it’s their performance presence that makes Magic Giant special. They are consistently successful in developing a bond with the audience and creating an environment in which even normally passive gig-goers join the movement.

Magic Giant at The Chapel
With apologies to Don McLean, we sadly note that in our area of the music world, March 15 was the “day live music died:”
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
... The day [live] music died

Thankfully, it’s more of a coma than a death, but there will be long term effects. At least one of our “regular” venues announced that it will not reopen (Slim’s). Sure, there are other venues for strong live bands (Magic Giant) to perform. However, we’re experiencing climate change.

Magic Giant wrote “Disaster Party” in response to California’s wildfires, which brought neighbors together in order to protect their homes. So, it is different than today’s pandemic, when neighbors are socially distanced. Still, as the band said while referencing the song, “Any time when shit is hitting the fan, instead of having a pity party, throw a disaster party.”

Magic Giant is made up of Austin Bisnow (vocals/percussion), Zambricki Li (fiddle/banjo), and Zang (guitar). Their upcoming album raises the sentiment that “sometimes songs can be bigger than life itself,” Zambricki said. He continued, “Telling stories of love, loss, unity, friendship and heartache, the record is sincere and heartfelt. Calling this moment in the group’s lives a ‘marriage,’ the music reflects the time, dedication and openness the group shared over the course of the making of the album.”

Lyrics of “Disaster Party” by Magic Giant
I see danger
You’re invited
We’re in trouble
But don’t hide it
Living only for the moment but the moment is gone
Only for the moment but the moment is gone and

It’s a disaster party
Running through hell
Might as well
Throw away all your money
They say it’s our fate
And we’re too late

I know I know
That we’re all pretending
This night is never ending
And if you need somebody
It’s a Disaster Party

You’re a brave heart
But you’re broken
And an angel
But you’re choking
Living only for the moment but the moment is gone
Only for the moment but the moment is gone and

It’s a disaster party
Running through hell
Might as well
Throw away all your money
They say it’s our fate
And we’re too late

I know I know
That we’re all pretending
This night is never ending
And if you need somebody
It’s a Disaster Party

Maybe the world is broken
But our house is always open
Maybe the world is broken
But our house is always open

It’s a disaster party
Running through hell
Might as well
Throw away all your money
They say it’s our fate
And we’re too late

I know I know
That we’re all pretending
This night is never ending
And if you need somebody
It’s a Disaster Party
