“Die Tryin” is a duologue that becomes a dialogue. He has wronged her and, while they need each other, they are separated. Comparing the song to a play, it’s as though they are on opposite sides of a barrier, professing their shared longing to return to be a couple. Then, the barrier drops and he pleads “Forgive me for all that I’ve done,” to which she responds, “I’ll give you one chance to go on.”
