“Paint” by Marti West – A Song Review

     "'Paint' relaxes into the beginning of summer as the harsh Swedish winter finally fades away." That’s the explanation from Marti West, who moved from England to Sweden in 2017. Still, the song is open to interpretation and, at least now, we prefer to explore the alternatives. Thomas Merton noted “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” The vocals and melody of “Paint” have a tranquility, while the lyrics reveal a strife and a need to escape.

     Marti West is a singer/songwriter currently based in Gothenburg, Sweden. His music resides in the Folk genre, specifically the neighborhood of simple yet elegant instrumentalism and portrait lyrics. In “Paint,” the combination of acoustic and electric guitars creates a feel that is somehow simultaneously delicate and forceful. The song is the first single of an upcoming album, set to be released this summer.
