The attitudes of band members going to SXSW can be compared to the attitudes of baseball players attending Spring Training. In both cases, there is excitement and optimism, particularly early in the month of March. For some up-and-coming bands and ball players, the optimism is solidly based - the talent exists and all that’s needed is for the right people to notice. March provides the best opportunities to be noticed.
This post has two sections. The first involves another free offer of SXSW-related music. This one “only” includes 29 songs, which is 29 percent of the generosity of the NPR offer featured in the Indie Obsessive post earlier this week. Bands are contributing music in order to increase the chance of being noticed or to step-up the visibility they already possess. In the second section, a Spotify data analysis is summarized. Spotify performed some data crunching to identify the 100 SXSW bands that are receiving a disproportionate amount of worldwide buzz.
The Noisetrade SXSW 2015 Day Parties Mixtape covers an array of genres. The 29 songs are available for the mere price of an email address. Some of the tracks have been in previous posts of Indie Obsessive, such as “Wild” by Royal Teeth. The embedded Noisetrade offer permits streaming of the songs, but doesn't enable skipping within a song. So, we’re also embedding two Soundcloud steams for songs we recommend.
“Foot of the Hill” by Boxed In – If you like TV on the Radio, you will likely enjoy this song.
“Venice” by The Lighthouse and the Whaler

Spotify processed its data and assigned scores to bands based on what users are listening
to, reading about, and sharing. Each score was intended to reflect the buzz
around that band. Then, Spotify ranked the top 100 bands that will attend SXSW.
