“Island” by Mantaray – A Song Review

“Island” sits in the sweet spot of a Venn diagram of overlapping genre circles. The song has the instrumental delicateness and intricacy of Post Rock. The collaboration between the guitar and piano is artistic. But the importance of the vocals and their quality are more consistent with songs in the Folk genre. The male/female harmonization is perhaps the song’s strongest feature. And the song structure has an alignment to Pop.

“Island” is a song from “No More Sirens,” the sophomore album from Mantaray, The band hails from Jyväskylä, Finland. The six members of Mantaray are Jaakko Mäkeläinen (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jonne Luoma (guitar), Iida Pekkarinen (vocals, keyboards), Oula Maaranen (guitar), Eero Puttonen (bass), and Miika Luoma (drums).
Indie Obsessive thanks Jaakko for alerting us to "Island" and tips its cap to Teemu Luoma for the artwork.
