“Anew” by Hollow Coves – A Song Feature

“Anew” carries a timely message and a brilliance in setting the musical environment for communication of that message. The first three verses attest to the attentiveness and intelligence dedicated to the composition and execution of the song.

The first verse of “Anew” describes isolation, while the instrumental accompaniment is appropriately forlorn. Externally controlled factors sometimes dictate your situation – when falling snow buries you and when the light is fading. The sound of a church organ is joined by slow Shoegaze guitar. The church-ready organ continues during the second verse, but the guitar is now clear and warming, as the lyrics provide a reason for optimism – tides turn, seasons pass, and the sun will shine through the clouds to guide you home. Then, the tempo increases and the instruments provide a drive, as the third verse turns to a call for action - let’s see how far we can go; hear the voice that’s calling you home.

Hollow Coves are Ryan Henderson and Matt Carins in Brisbane, Australia. They take pride in writing songs with positive messages. "Perspective is so important." says Ryan. “More and more we keep hearing about all the tragedies around the world. The focus is so often pointed towards the negative. It’s easy to get stuck in that.” “Anew” delivers a reminder to audiences “even though you might be struggling today, tomorrow is a new day” over strains of luminescent keys.

Lyrics of “Anew” by Hollow Coves
When the snow starts to fall
And you’re buried down beneath it all
When the light fades away
If you lose your breath and the words to say

Tides will turn
Rest assured
Cause seasons pass
A new day dawns
And through the clouds the sun will shine
To guide you home into the light

Let us follow where rivers flow
Let’s see how far we can go
When it feels like you’re out on your own
Hear the voice that’s calling you home

You’ve still got so much more to say
Don’t let this life you have slip away
(Live for another day)
The sun will rise with each new day
Don’t let this life you have slip away
(Live for another day)

You’ve still got so much more to say
Don’t let this life you have slip away
(Live for another day)
The sun will rise with each new day
Don’t let this life you have slip away
(Live for another day)
