“This Is Home” by Kid Giant – A Song Feature

It’s appropriate that two individuals who relocated from one continent to another should flex their musical muscles around an anthem declaring “This Is Home.” Johnny Ashby and Carl Thomson are Kid Giant. Both were raised in the UK before heading for Los Angeles.

The intro to “This Is Home” is an exhibition of the vocal skills of Kid Giant. Soaring vocals are soon joined by an underlayer in which the lyrics telegraph the message of the song. The intro also telegraphs the genre – Guitar Rock. The guitar holds the instrumental focus through most of “This Is Home,” as a succession of attractive hooks ushers the listener through the single. But the flaw in any assumption that full appreciation of the song has been reached is exposed upon entrance of a saxophone. “This Is Home” is a time vehicle back to the 1970s and early 1980s, when saxophone-driven anthems were king. The saxophone in "This Is Home" belongs to John Waugh, a session and touring member of The 1975.

        Quoting their website content:
Kid Giant write epic songs with anthemic builds and speak about achieving the impossible, feeling like an outsider and coming together. According to British Airways and American inflight Entertainment their debut EP ranks in the Top 25 most streamed releases alongside Adele, George Ezra and Muse. Their debut EP was recorded with Mikal Blue (One Republic, Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat).
