Eccentric Female-Featured Singles – Then and Now

“Chaise Longue” and “Modern Job” are 2021 singles that are creative and that feature provocative lyrics presented by females with attitude. The same is true for “Never Say Never” by Romeo Void (1982) and “Money” by The Flying Lizards (1979). Fortunately for music lovers, there is now a greater appreciation and acceptance of such songs.

Wet Leg are a British indie band from the Isle of Wight, founded by Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers.

Lyrics of “Chaise Longue” by Wet Leg
Mommy, daddy, look at me
I went to school and I got a degree
All my friends call it "the big D"
I went to school and I got the big D
I got the big D
I got the big D
I got the big D
I went to school and I got the big D

Is your muffin buttered?
Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?
Excuse me (what?)
Excuse me (what?)
Hey you, over there
On the chaise longue in your underwear
What are you doing sitting down?
You should be horizontal now

On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue

Is your mother worried?
Would you like us to assign someone to worry your mother?
Excuse me (what?)
Excuse me (what?)
Hey you, in the front row
Are you coming backstage after the show?
Because I've got a chaise longue in my dressing room
And a pack of warm beer that we can consume

On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue

On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, on the chaise longue, on the chaise longue
All day long, on the chaise longue

All day long, all day long, on the chaise longue
All day long, all day long, on the chaise longue
All day long, all day long, on the chaise longue
On the chaise longue, all day long, on the chaise longue

Lyrics of “Modern Job” by Sprints
I wish I was bolder
I wish I was brave
And I wish I didn't count my days
By the things I didn't say
And I wish I had the guts
I wish I had the gall
I wish I had a girl
I wish I had it all
I wish that I was married
I wish that I was rich
I wish I had the life
And I wish that this wasn't it

Cause I want a modern job
A modern life
With modern money
And a modern wife
The modern window
The modern hall
The modern fiction
And modern foe
I want the modern garden
And modern guile
With the modern jargon
The modern smile
The modern good
The modern bad
But this modern hope
That's all I have

I wish I was bolder
I wish I was bravе
And I wish I didn't count my days
By the things I didn't say
And I wish I had the guts
I wish I had the gall
I wish I had a girl
I wish I had it all
I wish that I was marriеd
I wish that I was rich
I wish I had the life
And I wish that this wasn't it

Cause I want a modern job
A modern life
With modern money
And a modern wife
The modern window
The modern hall
The modern fiction
And modern foe
I want the modern garden
And modern guile
With the modern jargon
The modern smile
The modern good
The modern bad
But this modern hope
That's all I have
I want it all

Oh, I wish I had it all
Oh, I wish I had it all
Oh, I wish I had it
Oh, I wish I had it
Oh, I wish I had it

I wish I was bolder
I wish I was brave
I wish I didn't count my days
By the things I didn't say

And I wish I had
A modern job
A modern life
With modern money
And a modern wife
The modern window
The modern hall
The modern fiction
And a modern foe
I want the modern garden
And modern guile
With a modern jargon
The modern smile
The modern good
The modern bad
But this modern hope
It's all I have
I want it all

Oh, I wish I had it all
Oh, I wish I had it all
Oh, I wish I had it
Oh, I wish I had it
Oh, I wish I had it all
