“No One Keeps A Tan” by Dog Days + The Late Arthur

During the initial opportunities to listen to “No One Keeps A Tan,” the focus tends to be on the quality of and chemistry between the two vocalist – Dog Days and The Late Arthur. Dog Days is the moniker of Stockholm-based Markus Örn, while The Late Arthur is the performance name of LA’s Henrik Jonzon. The single allows each to showcase his vocal charm and purity. Still, it’s the combination that triggers the richness and enchantment of “No One Keeps A Tan.”

It isn’t lost by anyone that the ease and melodic warmth of the single accommodate the vocals of Dog Days + The Late Arthur. The Bandcamp site for purchasing “No One Keeps A Tan” and three other songs by the pair explains that apart from skateboarding, the two “share a mutual love for 90’s indie rock, Californian 70’s folk rock and pretty much anything with great melodies.”

Instrumentally, the single also deserves praise. At the start, an intentionally “shallow” guitar contrasts well against the low frequencies of the driving bass line. Starting at 1:45, the percussion is allowed to flex its musical muscle. The texture of “No One Keeps A Tan” reaches its peak before entering an outro that is aligned with the intro. For the single, Markus Örn contributed vocals and guitars, with Henrik Jonzon providing vocals, guitars, bass, drums, and keys.

When Markus Örn talks about their four-track EP, he notes, “First and foremost, it’s a labour of love!” The title is intuitive - “Dog Days + The Late Arthur.”  Again quoting the Bandcamp site:
’Dog Days + The Late Arthur’ features four new songs about living, loving and longing. Musically, the EP is a seamless marriage of Dog Days’ folksy pop and The Late Arthur’s quirky indie rock. The EP was written, recorded and produced by Markus and Henrik through Jan-March 2022 in Tyresö, Sweden.”
