“Half Of Us” by Miro Shot - A Song Feature

Music creation and presentation are in a great place, but we have been running in this place for decades. The times of regular groundbreaking changes are no longer upon us. Perhaps the view of the future taken by Miro Shot will be brought into a greater and more shared focus by the current concern over safely attending a concert. Miro Shot isn’t merely a group of skilled musicians; it is a collective of musicians, filmmakers, coders and designers. They see the potential of applying virtual reality and other technological advancements to the musical experience. And if concert-goers are wearing VR equipment, crowding close to the stage losses its appeal.

The Facebook page of Miro Shot identifies their hometown as London/Paris and lists the membership as Roman Rappak, Tomo Carter, Hinako Omori, Klara Romec, Alexander Parsons, and Jamie Keegan. Miro Shot released their debut album “Content,” on May 1, 2020, via All Points and Warp Publishing. Among the high energy, rhythm-drive songs is “Half Of Us.” Showing that their vision of today’s realities is clear, the press content explains:
HALF OF US is about the multiple realities we experience daily through our phones, laptops and social media – the best and worst sides of influencer culture, online identities, the infinite flow of information that we are exposed to every day. Its about the way we have changed not only the way we communicate and consume information, but the way we look at the world, what it means to be alive, and even how we see ourselves.
Through technology our lives have now spread across more than just one reality - we have added multiple layers and grades between what we think of as “real life” and the “virtual”. We are online personas, Instagram accounts and avatars. We are the tiny Uber icon driving from one place to the next, next to a rating of how polite we have been, linked to a bank account that exists outside of the physical world – while desperately trying to be “real” and deriding things that are “fake.”

“Lost in The Thick of It” by The Coronas x Gabrielle Aplin

The venue shutdown deprived fans of opportunities to see The Coronas in various U.S. cities, including San Francisco. The positive news is that Canadian and U.S. dates have been rescheduled for late 2020. The tour dates are available at https://thecoronas.net/. The Irish band will visit The Independent in San Francisco on November 11.

Last year, The Coronas wrote “Lost in The Thick of It” with UK-based Gabrielle Aplin. After a few months, they recorded the song at Eastcote Studios in London. It's the first duet released by The Coronas. The single is from their upcoming album “True Love Waits,” which is scheduled to drop on July 31. Regarding the song:
“I think it’s about needing to sort your own head out before you’re able to talk to other people about things that you’re going through. Sometimes you know that there’s something wrong but you’re not sure exactly what it is yet and you’re not ready to discuss it with anyone."
“Ironically, because it was written before all this madness, It’s almost a yearning for isolation and that’s really what it’s about to me: Sorting things out for yourself before you’re able to talk to people, even the people that you care about what’s going on, sort of apologising to people you love but you just need your space."

The members of the Dublin, Ireland band are Conor Egan, Graham Knox, and Danny O'Reilly. The voices of the duet of “Lost in The Thick of It” belong to O’Reilly and Gabrielle Aplin. After the start of the song, their voices are overdubbed, turning "mere strength" into superhero capability.

Some weeks ago, it was suggested that The Coronas tour with The Vaccines and Cure. We’re in!

Lyrics of “Lost in The Thick of It” by The Coronas x Gabrielle Aplin
I didn't need it, a sudden love
The way you walked away, it really messed me up
I tried to solve it, left it alone
Won't make it better, I could never do it all

I'm goin' for alittlebit
ButI, get lostin the thickof it
I hate to say that I'm wrong
Feels better playing along
Hoping you don't notice it when I'm
Just a bit low-spirited
I've got to face it alone

There must be nothing, you've left to prove
Turning into something that you never want to lose
I want a lawyer, give me the lawyer too
I'll say I'm guilty if it brings me back to you

I'm goin' for a little bit
But I, get lost in the thick of it sometimes
I hate to say that I'm wrong
Feels better playing along
Hoping you don't notice it when I'm
Just a bit low-spirited, and I
I've got to face it alone

Maybe we could meet up, sometime
Just a little knees-up, sometime
Walking till our feet hurt, sometime
'Cause we're only growing, now it's folding, sometime
Used to be addicted, one time
Couldn't even fake it, one time
I guess that's why we drifted, you're right
And I hope you know it's never over

I'm goin' for a little bit
But I, get lost in the thick of it sometimes
I hate to say that I'm wrong
Feels better playing along
Hoping you don't notice it when I'm
Just a bit low-spirited, and I
I've got to face it alone yeah
I'm goin' for a little bit (Just a bit low-spirited)
I hate to say that I'm wrong
Feels better playing along
Hoping you don't notice it (Just a bit low-spirited)
I've got to face it alone

Pale Oaks - Free Saturday (“FL&R”)

Finding songs that can be legally downloaded is easy. The difficult task is to find legally downloadable music that we recommend. Our plan is to post at least one Free, Legal and Recommended (FL&R) song each Saturday.

Pale Oaks are from Athens, Greece. “Muddy Waters” is the first release from their upcoming album “Falter.” The single begins with an emphasis on the bass and drums rhythm section, keeping the guitar skills secret until the second verse (at 0:49).

The members of Pale Oaks are Akis Vogiatzis (vocals, guitar), Theo Vranas (drums), John Lefas (guitar, vocals), and Dimitris Konstantakopoulos (bass, vocals). Quoting content on their Facebook page:
Since their formation in late 2016, Pale Oaks have never been concerned with being the cool band in town. Where other bands are quick to shy away from being labeled “emo” or “pop,” the members of the Greek quartet wear their influences proudly on their sleeves. Combining the down-tuned guitars and melodies of mid-’00s emo, with 80’s synths and big pop hooks, they jokingly started calling their music “heavy-pop” until the term stuck. In their time together the band have toured Europe, released their well-received debut EP “…I’ve Been Better” and the stand-alone single “Losing Our Minds” before entering the studio in late 2018 to start recording what would become their debut LP “Falter.” The album sees the band pushing their sound even further creating a body of work that is meant to be listened to like the mixtapes they used to make as kids, where track order and vibe were more important than genre. Straight up guitar-driven rock songs give their turn to euphoric pop choruses, electronic drums, pitched vocals and glitchy lo-fi loops to create a collage of sounds that keeps things thrillingly unpredictable.

Lyrics of “Muddy Waters” by Pale Oaks
What am I but a breathing machine
Stuck in muddy waters, muddy waters
Excuse me if I'm making a scene
But I'm out of order, out of order
Leaving ain't as hard as it seems

Love is not renewed in the spleen
So remove that organ, move that organ
Sew me I'll bleed on your sheets
And I keep coming over, coming over
Giving you whatever you need

It's not getting easier
And honey I can't forget
It's not getting easier
And honey I can't forget

All the words I'm trying to speak
But I always falter, always falter
Going through our morning routine
Stay a little longer, little longer
Guess living ain't as hard as it seems

It's not getting easier
And honey I can't forget
It's not getting easier
And honey I can't forget

What did I say [Repeating]
[Layered with:]
It's not getting easier
And honey I can't forget
