“Action (Part 3)” by Conversing with Oceans - A Song Review
The allure of the voice pulls a listener into “Action (Part 3)”; then, cleverly crafted lyrics and intelligently timed instrumental features maintain the grip. Particularly at the start of the track, the voice shares some of the more appealing vocal characteristics of Thomas Mars, the lead singer of the band Phoenix (compare “Lasso”).
For most of “Action (Part 3),” the instruments seem content to play a support role. The percussion is more interesting than merely a steady beat, but doesn’t demand attention. A piano starts the intro and makes its gentle presence felt throughout the track. Our favorite use of the piano is the insertion of notes at the one-minute mark, while the lyrics begin the second half of “Just like in Hollywood; Do you think we can do this?”. For the guitar, we pinpoint the instrument’s crescendo at 2:55, as the chorus makes its third visit. The lyrical content gives a tip of the hat to cinema, with the couple being concerned with a villain identified as “the center."
Conversing with Oceans is the project of Alex Bondarev, who resides in Bronx, NY. He is originally from the city of Grozny (formally of Russia), but his family immigrated to India to avoid unrest within the city. “Action (Part 3)” is a track on the recently released EP “Trilogy.” According to the Soundcloud site for the track, the contributors to the song include Alex Bondarev (vocals, guitars), Chris Ragone (lead guitars), and Danny Castro (drums).
