“Pulse“ by Galapaghost – A Song Review

Tragedy inspires art, typically as a means for processing emotions. “Pulse” is a reaction to the Orlando shooting at the Pulse nightclub in June 2016. The song is from Galapaghost, a solo project of Casey Chandler.

Casey Chandler is from Woodstock, New York. But he now resides in Austin, Texas. “Pulse” is the title track of an album due for release on January 12, 2018. In describing the album, Chandler said:
“The album is definitely not a political album at all, but some of the songs are about how I've become disillusioned with America and somewhat about being caught in the middle of not fully feeling 'American' but not feeling quite European after living there for two years. Some songs are just about figuring out what the hell I'm going to do with my life if I don't find success in music and trying to come to terms with that as I enter my 30's. The album was self-produced and recorded in Italy in 15 days. A recurring effect we used on the album was distortion on the drums and delay on the vocals to give it a grittier feel than my previous albums."

Lyrics of “Pulse“ by Galapaghost
Vacant in tone
Bodies are thrown
This endless fear
They tried to atone
Their stories are told
This endless tear

But we'll hear it all again
We'll feel it all again
Maybe all they needed was a friend
But we'll hear it all again
We'll feel it all again
The cycle never ends

It started when you were young
You thought it looked like fun
And all the big boys knew how to shoot a gun
And they said aim at what you hate
And carry that weight
Cause god is on your side

So you kill 'em all again
You kill 'em all again
And everything you wanted was pretend
But you kill 'em all again
You kill 'em all again
All the brilliant minds of mankind

And maybe all the news will start to change
And global warming will be the only scare today
But I know that it will probly always be this way

And we'll hear it all again
We'll feel it all again
Maybe all they needed was a friend
And we'll hear it all again
We'll feel it all again
The cycle never ends
