The Fluids are fully invested into “Just Like Me.” The passion flows from speakers as if a thick, raw and tacky fluid – tacky because it is so easy to get stuck to the sound of this track. The ability to remain melodically attractive while shouting lyrics seems easy, until you try to accomplish the feat. Mike Tony of The Fluids has the skill.
When it’s clear that a band has made the investment, there’s a willingness to join them. “Just Like Me” is not the typical track of Indie Obsessive. Spencer Scanlon at Transmission Publicity alerted us to the song in October, but it took time for us to appreciate the track and creativity of lyrics such as:
I look through the records
They're dusty and spineless
They're just like me
The Fluids are based in Brooklyn. The members are Mike Tony (vocals, guitar), Nick DeMolina (guitar), and Cooper Formant (bass). Quoting the content from Transmission Publicity, “[T]heir sound has already drawn apt comparisons to Berlin-era Bowie, early Talking Heads, The Modern Lovers, Lou Reed and Echo & The Bunnymen.”
