The song was written to a daughter, and the video is a tribute to the women of Bolivia. “Firebird” is the latest single release from “Blossom,” the 2017 album of Milky Chance. In their “Blossomentary” (CLICK HERE, if interested), Clemens Rehbein talked about writing the song to his daughter one sleepless night on the bus during the U.S. tour. The pictures in this post were taken at the band’s stop in Mountain View, California.
Later, while touring South America, they were struck by the “transformation, self-fulfillment and development" of the women of Bolivia. The official video of “Firebird” is a tribute to Bolivian women:
“We were inspired and totally hooked by the power and charisma that these women of Bolivia carry out every day” explains Clemens Rehbein, continuing “They're making a socio-political statement by just doing their own thing and that‘s something we admire and wanted to be seen."
The video shows the transformation from a “superhero mum” to one of the Fighting Cholitas. We had to do a little research to find out that the Fighting Cholitas are a group of ladies in El Alto, Boliva, who wear multilayered skirts and bowler hats when taking part in a celebrated, freestyle wrestling bouts.
Interestingly, “Firebird” was written on a bus and the video begins in a hotel room. Does this band rest? [Thank you Isobel at Whiteboard.]
