“Whiskey King” by Mammoth Indigo – A Song Feature

Mammoth Indigo executes tempo changes masterfully, as exhibited in “Whiskey King.” The track travels through musical eras, including the Psychedelic era, when Jim Morrison was the “Lizard King.” And the song’s official video is a parody of videos of the early 1980s, when agitated disputes were resolved by “competitive dancing” (Pat Benatar’s “Love Is A Battlefield” and Michael Jackson’s “Beat It).

Mammoth Indigo is from Virginia, but their Facebook page was recently updated to include Los Angeles as a hometown. The members are Cody Bowers (vocals, guitar), Dan McDonough (guitar, keyboards), Eric Singer (drums), and Adam Vaagen (bass).

Lyrics of “Whiskey King” by Mammoth Indigo
Always sorry
Long face
Big brains

We are friends
Hardly dissimilar in our beliefs or hometown
But everyone is telling me that I'm...
Telling me that I’m…

I'm not even me
Yeah - I'm not even me
Yeah - I'm not even me
Yeah - I'm not even me
Yeah
Now I live underwater
Now I live underwater
Now I live underwater
Now I live underwater

I had a dark side
A hard side
A sharp side
A smart side
But everyone is telling me that I'm...
Telling that I’m…

I'm not even me
Yeah - I'm the devil in the deep end
My back underwater with my ass in the pool bed
Now I live underwater
Now I live underwater
Lowly me, I'm the Whiskey King

I'm wasted
Scanning down the ground
Acting like a baby
That hasn't cried in ten years' time
Until now

And you can taste it
I'm drinking just to drown
(I'm fine though, I'm fine)

And you're so patient
It's like I'm not around
(I'm fine though, I'm fine)

I'm not even me
Yeah - I'm the devil in the deep end
My back underwater with my ass in the pool bed
Now I live underwater
Now I live underwater
Lowly me, I'm the Whiskey King
