"Gazelles" by Frida Sundemo – A Song Feature

“Gazelles” is a piano-supported, vocally lush single until a percussion roll at the one-minute mark, when soft violins bring another layer of beauty to the song of Frida Sundemo. Still, the pinnacle of the allure to “Gazelles” isn’t reached until the final half minute, when her voice is multi-tracked into an angelic choir.

Frida Sundemo explains “Gazelles” as an acknowledgement of the fears of the unknown while letting life “run like gazelles.” She says, "It’s like you’re standing in front of an ocean of great choices but the fear of taking the wrong path is constantly picking you on the shoulder. Still, you’re overwhelmed by the beauty of the unknown."

The songs bear more differences than similarities, but "Gazelles" does bring to mind Dan Fogelberg’s 1977 single “Nether Lands.” Both tracks feature soft vocals supported by piano and strings. And both poetically address making a decision between paths. Fogelberg wrote:
Once in a vision
I came on some woods
And stood at a fork in the road
My choices were clear
Yet I froze with the fear
Of not knowing which way to go

One road was simple -
Acceptance of life
The other road
Offered sweet peace
When I made my decision
My vision became my release

Frida is from the Gothenburg, Sweden. Her 2017 debut album “Flashbacks & Futures” was warmly received in the blogosphere.
