“Bonfire Heart” – A Song Review

Admittedly, we are off topic today. “Indie” isn’t a genre, it’s an economic situation that reaches across many genres. Perhaps the best short definition - "Indie is an independence from corporate funding." In music, the most common source of corporate funding is a major record label.
So, someone who is signed with Warner Bros. and who has sold more than 20 million albums should not have a song featured in a blog that refers to itself as Indie Obsessive. Nevertheless, we have a number of reasons to make an exception. Our reasons are:
1. We are currently experiencing obsessive behavior regarding listening to “Bonfire Heart” by James Blunt.
2. James Blunt seems to be a genuinely good guy. He continues to be an active supporter of “Doctors Without Borders,” an organization with which he became familiar while serving as an officer in the British Army.
3. We really enjoy some of the David Letterman moments in which Letterman attempts to be clever, despite being COMPLETELY unprepared for a mere 20 second interaction with a performer. The James Blunt appearance of November 6, 2013 isn’t one of the all-time classic Letterman moments, but it is uncomfortable enough to be a keeper.

LYRICS OF “Bonfire Heart”

Days like these, lead to...
Nights like this, lead to
Love like ours.
You light the spark in my bonfire heart.
People like us, we don’t
Need that much, just some-
One that starts,
Starts the spark in our bonfire hearts.

This world is getting colder.
Strangers passing by
No one offers you a shoulder.
No one looks you in the eye.
But I’ve been looking at you
For a long, long time
Just trying to break through,
Trying to make you mine.

Everybody wants a flame,
They don’t want to get burnt
Well, today is our turn.

Days like these, lead to...
Nights like this, lead to
Love like ours.
You light the spark in my bonfire heart.
People like us, we don’t
Need that much, just some-
One that starts,
Starts the spark in our bonfire hearts.

Our Bonfire Hearts.
Our Bonfire Hearts.
Our Bonfire Hearts.
You light the spark.

People like us—we don’t
Need that much, just some-
One that starts,
Starts the spark in our bonfire hearts.

(Repeat)
