“So Sick” by Repenter - A Song Feature

When The Pretenders are ready to pass the baton, Repenter is the low-body-fat power band prepared to actully pick up the pace. “So Sick,” the debut single of the LA-based band, compares favorably to Rock-dedicated hits of The Pretenders, such as “Middle of the Road.” Both singles tackle the listener after a few seconds. While “Middle of the Road” starts with methodic drumming as its short lead-in, “So Sick” has a brief, unassuming guitar crescendo that doesn’t prepare the listener for the sudden acceleration that follows. Soon afterward, the female vocals enter as a combination of the best traits of Chrissie Hynde and Pat Benatar.

Repenter is driven by Holly Winter and Thomas Scriven. The band is produced by Ross Robinson (The Cure, At The Drive-In, Glassjaw, The Blood Brothers, Korn, Slipknot). The video is a pull-back-the-curtain recording of Holly providing the vocals of “So Sick” while at The Bunker in Atwater Village, California.

Lyrics of “So Sick” by Repenter
Make a face at your phone
Like you’re Zoolander
They like it and love it
And all of a sudden, they can’t stand you
It’s not your fault people are so mean to you
It’s love or hate, there ain’t no in between
You’re looking good, Baby
Did you get a new camera?

I just want you to know
I ain’t mad at ya
But I ain’t a fan of ya
No, No
You’re just so sick with yourself
You don’t need my help

Changing lanes with your babe in your Range Rover
Then all over your shoulder you roll down your window and both smolder
You know who, as seen on TV
You talk about it every day in therapy
You’re looking good, Baby
Did you ever get sober?

I just want you to know
I ain’t mad at ya
But I ain’t a fan of ya
No, No
You’re just so sick with yourself
You don’t need my help
[Repeating]
