“Someone Else's Eyes” by WHALE CITY – A Song Feature

WHALE CITY displays across-the-board skillfulness – their sound is melodically alluring, vocally powerful, and lyrically intelligent. The vocals from the three members have force, clarity. and smoothness. The Stay-at-Home performance of the song “Someone Else's Eyes” shows that their appeal is not a product of the magic of a high-powered studio. The live performance is by far the best socially distanced show we have seen.

WHALE CITY received much-deserved attention from the release of the video. So, with the loosening of the corona restrictions, the trio headed to the studio to record “Someone Else's Eyes.” The studio recording enhances the texture and force of the single. And at 2:28, other voices are added.

In explaining the motivation for “Someone Else's Eyes,” frontman Andi Görlitz said:
Actually the plan was to release 'Someone Else's Eyes' not before 2021. We wanted to use the song to encourage people to change their perspective much more often. Because then you realize relatively quickly that your own problems are often very small compared to the problems of others and that with understanding for each other you can make a big difference in our world. However, after the first weeks of the corona crisis and the restrictions on personal freedom that came with it, we had the feeling: There is no better time than now for this message.”

The band from Germany named itself after a bakery along the California coast. Whale City Bakery, Bar and Grill is in Davenport, California. Following his success with German football/soccer teams, frontman Andi Görlitz played an injury-shortened season (2014) with the San Jose Earthquakes. While in California, he enjoyed spotting whales while sitting on the patio of the bakery. In 2018, Andi (vocals, guitar) had returned to Germany and started WHALE CITY with Michael Eichele, (keyboard, bass, backing vocals) and Juri Jangl (drums, backing vocals).

Below are a number of options to listen/stream “Someone Else's Eyes.” Both videos are included because they are praiseworthy for different reasons. The Soundcloud stream brings the song to the attention of the aggregating site Hype Machine, while the Spotify version is the only option that brings a direct financial reward to WHALE CITY.
