“I know that love and justice don’t sleep together.” That line stood out the first time we listened to “Wake in Fright” by Desert Planes. Well-crafted lyrics can be clear and insightful, or they can be vague and thought provoking. The line in the Desert Planes’ song fits the second description, and it’s fitting for a band with press materials that begin, “In an indie-rock scene where stream counts are held in greater esteem than songwriting ability when it comes to music industry buzz, London two-piece Desert Planes may well be the exception to the rule…”
From an instrument perspective, the guitar is the standout in “Wake in Fright.” Desert Planes are Tom Farrer and Ben Niblett. Quoting the email submission:
