“Brat” is the AnastasiaMax track with the heaviest reliance on the vocal skills of Max Brenner. He took the lead in “Dirty, but vocal responsibilities were close to being evenly divided with his sister, Anastasia. In “Brat,” Anastasia often joins her older brother, but doesn’t go solo for any line of the lyrics. Yet, the vocals are a strength of the single.
“Brat” bursts out of the gate with the force of early Joy Formidable. As the roar subsides, a strong bassline takes the reins. But AnastasiaMax is at its best when the voices of the sister/brother combination must compete with the urgency of the instruments in order to be heard. Mixing was likely a time-consuming process for “Brat,” since the instruments surge and soften often.
AnastasiaMax is a quartet based in Boca Raton, Florida. They are Anastasia Grace Brenner (vocals, piano), Maxamillion Brenner (guitar, vocals, piano), Sage Duvall (drums, keys), and Steph Pino (bass).
