“Closer” by Rolo Tomassi – A Song Feature

It’s fair to divide the song into three parts when appreciating the richness of “Closer.” The Soundcloud waveform visually supports the division. The single from Rolo Tomassi begins with a longer-than-most intro having gently elegant piano played atop an atmospheric foundation. Then, the tempo jumps as “Closer” enters its second portion. The vocals have a tenderness that masks their force. Finally, the transition into the third portion includes a calm that leads to a more thunderous guitar that is featured until the outro.

“Closer” is not indicative of the musical style of Rolo Tomassi. Fact is, the band doesn’t have an established style. The song is a single from their recently released album “Where Myth Becomes Memory,” which also includes scream-featured, heavy single “Cloaked.” Band member James Spence said about “Closer:”
"We wanted to show a completely different side to the record by releasing this single. The album is full of lighter, more gentle moments to contrast the darker side to it and none more so than this."

After going an extended time without posting a song from a band comprising siblings, Rolo Tomassi is the third in two weeks, the vocalist are sister and brother Eva Korman and James Spence. The full band is Eva Korman (vocals), James Spence (vocals, keyboards, synthesizers), Chris Cayford (guitar), Nathan Fairweather (bass), and Al Pott (drums). They are an English band from Sheffield.

Lyrics of “Closer” by Rolo Tomassi
Where to begin?
How to fathom this?

An endless beautiful symmetry
Designed to fail, sweet catastrophe
Once lost in the glow
Now I'm the devil you don't know

What's left to lose?
All I want is you
Your patience removed
But all I want is you
Naive to assume
Yet all I want is you
As language concludes
The only way out is through

And all I want is you

What's left to prove?
Once lost in the glow
Now I'm the devil you don't know
