With a release that is elegant in its use of contrast, El West shows that the band is a force to monitor. The vocals in “Rose Letter A” are sometimes light and ballad-like, but turn nearly operatically forceful during portions of the song, particularly the chorus. Similarly, the guitars fluctuate between having an alluring vulnerability and a forceful urgency. The percussion is more than willing to support the shifts.
The lyrics of “Rose Letter A” are included in this post. They reflect the loss felt when a friend moved to Spain. Thomas Brenneman is identified as the primary contributor to the composition of the song, while Bryant Powell provided the lyrics and melodies.
El West is based in Phoenix, Arizona. The band is scheduled to release an EP, "The Mainstay," on June 16, 2017. The discovery of “Rose Letter A" lead us to equally dynamic tracks from the band, so we are looking forward to the EP release.
