“Strangers” by Mt. Joy – A Song Feature

“Strangers” showcases the keyboard skills of Jackie Miclau, perhaps more than any other release from Mt. Joy. The band’s recent performance on Late Night with Seth Meyers is embedded at the bottom of this post. The important role of the piano is easily recognized at the start of the video. The inset picture of Jackie was taken during Mt. Joy’s San Francisco in April 2018 (at Cafe du Nord).

“Strangers” is a single from Mt. Joy's second album, "Rearrange Us." The album will be released on June 5, but can be preordered at the Bandcamp site - mtjoyband.bandcamp.com...strangers

The founding members of Mt. Joy have their roots in Philadelphia, but the band was fully formed and is now based in Los Angeles. The members are Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar), Sam Cooper (guitar), Sotiris Eliopoulos (drums), Jackie Miclau (keyboards), and Michael Byrnes (bass).

Lyrics of “Strangers” by Mt. Joy
Well, I guess I'll have to fall in love with strangers
Ride through New York City like I'm famous
And if our lives don't work, then we can change ‘em
Lord knows we've changed, love will rearrange us, like

If you want freedom, that breathes on
Better not run when I'm hanging on, like
If you want freedom, you better free someone
Better not run when I'm blind

Cause I am over you
I am over you
And I am over you
I am over you
I am over you
And I am over you
Flesh wound, little flesh wound

I guess I'll have to fall in love with strangers
Go ride through New York City like I'm famous
And I did not want our love to be erased, but
Lord knows we chased it, love just rearranged us

I'm everything I thought I was, even if I don't have much
My blue side, my fire eyes, my heart keeps me in the fight, like
If you want freedom, you better free someone
You better not run when I'm blind

But I am over you
I am over you
And I am over you
I am over you
I am over you
And I am over you
Flesh wound, little flesh wound

(Solo, over you, I am over you)
Other side now
I will be alright
(I am over you, I am over you)
(Solo)
Other side now
I will be alright

I guess I'll have to fall in love with strangers
Ride through New York City like I'm famous
And I did not want our love to be erased, but
Lord knows we chased it, love just rearranged us
