The Lighthouse and the Whaler – A Concert Opportunity

We envy the four members of The Lighthouse and the Whaler. There’s an excitement and an awareness that are experienced while heading toward events that will be enlightening and potentially life changing. Their album, “Mont Royal,” drops on August 28. And a month-long tour kicks off on September 13. Sure, there’s some stress, but life is good if you’re Michael LoPresti (vocals, guitar), Matthew LoPresti (drums), Mark Porostosky, Jr. (mandolin, keys, synth) or Ryan Walker (bass, synths).
As a part of the promotion, The Lighthouse and the Whaler is allowing free downloads (tips appreciated) of five songs. Warning: Often these generous offers disappear when the album is released. But even if you download the five songs, there are additional songs on the album that justify the purchase price. For example, the Noisetrade offer includes “In Motion,” but not “I Want to Feel Alive.”
“In Motion” has a “Where did that come from?” moment. The song is strong throughout, but the band shouts in the final thirty seconds are effective in pulling a listener back to full attention on the track. “Bothers” seems appropriate for a band that includes a pair of siblings. According to the band, the song is about “sacrifice, commitment and familial relationships.”
The tour dates of Cleveland’s The Lighthouse and the Whaler are at the bottom of this post. Among the stops is a San Francisco performance at Rickshaw Stop on September 23. For ticket information, CLICK HERE.

“I Want to Feel Alive” (which will be on the "Mont Royal" album: Thanks for the heads up Amanda Pitts.)

Joining The Lighthouse and the Whaler at the Rickshaw Stop performance in San Francisco will be Born Cages and Doncat (the performance name of San Francisco’s Duncan Nielsen). Born Cages will accompany The Lighthouse and the Whaler for all of the September stops listed below, with the exception of the Dallas visit. Born Cages is based in New York and its members are Vlad Holiday (vocals/guitar), Matt Maroulakos (bass/keys) and Dave Tantao (drums).
