“Get Found” by The Heart Of – A Song Review

There is a genuine appreciation for every song we feature on Indie Obsessive. But very few tracks strike a chord so strongly that they cause us to reflect on existential topics, such as the level of negative impact if music were to be taken from our lives. “Get Found” struck that chord. It isn’t merely the gentle beauty of the melody or the tenderness in the harmonization, although both of those qualities set the song apart from others we enjoy. “Get Found” has a poetry that is more than rhyming words within a verse; the lyrics have a thoughtful poetic beauty in single lines – “Regret is a sleeping totem.” We value even those statements with which there is some disagreement – “Hope is for pipedream chasers.”

“Get Found” has an abundance of praiseworthy features. Certainly, much thought was given to such details as when harmonization should enter and exit. It’s impressive that the banjo fits so smoothly into the track. And the instrumental outro has an intriguing combination of piano and percussion.

According to their Facebook page, The Heart Of is based in New York, NY. The record label is the highly respected Brooklyn Basement Records. The bio reads:
“Rooted in vocal harmonies and acoustic melodies, The Heart Of captures the emotion and imagination of listeners through eccentric story-telling and cinematic songs. With a notebook bursting at the seams with songs, The Heart Of was brought to life in a farmhouse in Bronson, Michigan, where their debut EP was recorded.”

Lyrics of “Get Found” by The Heart Of
A bird in hand
And two in the cold
Traced on the paper
Which fades in its folds

Regret is a sleeping totem
Silence a broken modem
Shimmer love lay lacked grace
Placed too close to hold

Been lost
I want to get found
One more mile
I want to go down
[Repeat]

Searched too long
I don’t know what for now
I want to get out

Am I Hyde? Am I Jekyll?
Do you see me at all?
Am I flesh? Am I metal?
Am I breathing the fog?

Time is a great eraser
Cinched-up waist betrays
Get stuck on our own

Been lost
I want to get found
One more mile
I want to go down
[Repeat]

Searched too long
I don’t know what for now
I want to get out

Been lost
I want to get found
One more mile
I want to go down
[Repeat]

Searched too long
I don’t know what for now
I want to get out
