“Throne” and “Fire” by Saint Mesa – Song Features

Saint Mesa is an architect of a sound that’s built for strength. There are features that might at first seem merely ornamental, but within the full context of the song structure, the features provide contrast or achieve texturing to enhance the overall power. Thus, in “Throne” the dream-state middle portion abruptly ends with forceful percussion and emphatic vocals.

Saint Mesa is the performance name of Danny McCook from Mission Viejo, California. Reflecting his background, he characterizes his music as "Chilean American Dark Folk." It is more helpful to consider his songs as cinematic, perhaps best suited for a tribal clash. In addition to thunderous percussion, both “Throne” and “Fire” include guitar howls that have characteristics in common with elephant calls. Not surprisingly, the 2016 debut EP of Saint Mesa was entitled “Jungle.” His recent releases will be on the sophomore EP “Nocturn.”

Saint Mesa is indeed the architect of his soundscapes. For “Thrones,” McCook explained, “I played mostly everything myself, drums, synths, percussion, guitar, bass, and vocals. Striving to create something original.”
